NIT DESIGN AND BUILD PASSENGER AND CREW AREAS FOR NEW COSTA SHIPS

10.10.2017

NIT has signed new turnkey contracts with Meyer Turku for the new Costa cruise ships. NIT design and construct the crew stairs for the first and second vessel of the series as a steel-to-steel turnkey, each covering ten staircases and up to 6000 m2. In addition NIT also design and construct 6000 m2 per ship of visual turnkey deliveries including Sun Deck, Family Restaurant and Kids club.

“Our team has confirmed deals for two ships now and we are excited to participate in these great projects which have welcomed Costa Group, Europe’s leading cruise company, as a return customer to Finland”, says Mr. Jari Suominen, CEO of NIT.

Costa belongs to the Carnival Corporation, which is the largest cruise operator in the world. The size of new Costa ships will be 180,000 GT and they will accommodate up to 6,600 passengers. The ships will be powered by LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and they will be designed under the new green cruising concept which ambition is to build the most efficient and sustainable ships ever for the Carnival Corporation.

According to Jari Suominen, the engineering and design phase for the first ship has begun already. The delivery of ship is scheduled in 2019. The second ship will sail away from Turku on 2021.

“NIT is continuing to develop new benchmarks and standards for this growing industry in collaboration with our long-time partner Meyer Turku”, says Suominen. “We will invest in steel, data and brainpower to build this success story together with the shipyard.”

NIT is one of the leading interior suppliers for the world’s maritime industry. The company aims to be the most reliable partner for its customers. NIT has headquarters in Kaarina, Finland and it employs a workforce of approximately 100 professionals. The turnover of the company exceeded 50 million euros in 2016.
