NIT has been named one of most ambitious companies in Turku region, Finland. The prize – the Entrepreneurial Spirit of Turku Award – was given to CEO Jari Suominen of NIT by the mayor of Turku, Mr Aleksi Randell, during the Creative Business Camp event. The jury valued the company’s open-minded activities after the financial crisis hit the marine business:
“When the situation in the Finnish marine industry was challenging, NIT began in earnest to exploit the international market. As a result of the successful strategy and several years of hard work, international activity began to grow and today the majority of the company’s turnover comes from exports.”
After the crisis NIT has grown strongly. To achieve this, it has developed its operations to achieve its status as one of the best turnkey suppliers for the world’s major shipyards. NIT’s headquarters are in Kaarina, near Turku, and it has a subsidiary workshop Leo Steel in Turku and operations in Europe and Japan.
“NIT has demonstrated extraordinary determination through its activities,” the jury stated. “The company made some challenging decisions and developed a clear strategy to overcome the difficulties. As a result, international operations increased and today NIT is well known in all the world’s major shipyards.”
The Entrepreneurial Spirit of Turku has been awarded since 2003. In 2016 the prize was given to companies in three categories. NIT won the Born Global category.
“I’m very happy with this award”, says Mr Jari Suominen. “It feels great to receive public recognition for all the hard work we’ve put in and the rough seas we have sailed. Our priority is always our customer’s success, whatever the weather.”
